9 Video Presentation and Compression

چکیده

This chapter we first presents various video representations and formats. Then, an overview of video compression techniques is given. Two standards and related techniques are described and evaluated – px64 Kbps (or H.261/H.263) standard for video-based communications and MPEG standard for intensive applications of full-motion video. Both standards use the combination of DCT-based intraframe compression and predictive interframe coding based on motion vector estimation. The techniques for motion vector estimation are analyzed as well. Finally, we also introduce the XYZ video compression technique based on 3D-DCT, which does not require motion vector estimation. 171 Chapter 9 172
